There is a captivating background to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, where gambling hall gaming is against the law. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively small space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime area, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of controls constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; however, investment sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and despite the fact visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of many borders.
The 1st Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship casino, contains 150 one armed bandits and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machine games and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around resort and hotel compound that contains many amenities aside from the gambling den, which provides ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 one armed bandits and 88 table games.
