October 17th, 2009

There is an appealing background to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the border from next door Thailand, where gambling den betting is illegal. Eight casinos are situated in a relatively small area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime area, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; although, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are apparently needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is accurate of most borders.

The first Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge casino, features one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga gambling den is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of 150 slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machines and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel building that highlights numerous luxuries in addition to the gambling den, which provides ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 gaming tables.
